An electric car changes your routine less than you might expect, but the charging question is the one to get right before you buy. Most owners do almost all their charging at home overnight, which is both the cheapest and most convenient option.
A dedicated home charger can add a full charge overnight and is far faster than a standard wall socket. If you can charge at home or at work, an EV is easy to live with; if you rely entirely on public chargers, budget more time and money for it.
The running costs usually win: electricity is cheaper than fuel per kilometre, and EVs have fewer moving parts to service. The trade-off is a higher purchase price and the need to plan longer journeys around charging stops.
